Café Escapes – Café Mocha: K-Cup

Obviously I’m a huge fan of the Keurig. Why, it’s like having a barista in your own home. Ok, not quite since the Keurig can’t respond with witty banter like the lovely caffeinated folks down at Starbucks, but I think you get my point. When I was at Target the other day, I discovered Café Mocha K-Cups for the Keurig. You could say that I was floored upon my discovery.

These K-Cups are from the Green Mountain Coffee company, branched under a brand called “Café Escapes.” They come in a box of 16-24 and are about $11 – 18 for a box. Not too bad. That’s about $0.68 – $0.75 a K-Cup.

On to the important stuff – taste. Wow. Incredibly succulent and chocolaty. And these K-Cups aren’t sickeningly sweet either. I’d say they have the same similar deep chocolate flavor that Starbucks’ Café Mocha Lattes have. They have the taste of chocolate but still maintain the flavor of coffee. A K-Cup that is well done in my opinion.

If mocha lattes or mocha anything is your game, then I highly recommend these K-Cups to you. (Assuming you own a Keurig that is.) Café Escapes also have Hot Chocolate and Chai Tea Latte K-Cups. (The Chai Tea Latte variety is wonderful.)

Starbucks Bottled Frappuccinos Go Light

After many complaints on MyStarbucksIdea, Starbucks has released light options in their bottled Frappuccinos. A Mocha Light and a Vanilla Light. Each flavor is 100 calories and made with nonfat milk.

I picked up a 4-pack of the Mocha Light to try. And for being light, they’re actually pretty good! Now when comparing them to the original Mocha, they have a bit less of a chocolate flavor. Despite that minor thing, they’re really quite tasty.

I recommend them to anyone who prefers a lighter option. They’ve got the same great flavor, just a few less calories. Starbucks, I give you a thumbs up on this one.

[Reused Frappuccino bottle.]

Something I like to do with the remaining glass bottles is use them for iced coffee. First I peel off the labels and wash the bottles thoroughly. I then make a batch of coffee and store the coffee in the Frappuccino bottles, in the fridge, overnight. Then I have a bottle of iced coffee whenever I need it, especially on the go.
