Grocery Store Coffee Round-Up: Part 1

If you’ve been following my blog and Twitter for a while, then you know that I’m an avid seeker for all things coffee related. When I find a coffee-related-something, my body becomes paralyzed and my left eye twitches ever so slightly, therefore I must try it – assuming that I want to regain movement and a non-twitching left eye.

I heavily dash the BBQ rub on almost every cooked vegetable I consume. The flavor of the coffee doesn’t come through as strong as I presumed it would – it mostly tastes like garlic and brown sugar, but I think the coffee is what gives the seasoning a heavier essence.

The Coffee Concentrate is superbly smooth, but doesn’t mix well with non-dairy milk. Pour it over ice with some H2O and you have yourself a winner.

The Coffee & Cocoa isn’t as heavily chocolate flavored as I suspected it would be, but it is a decent brew. Comparable to most average medium roasts.

So Delicious hopped on the cold coffee bandwagon with their iced “Cococcino” lattes – available in a 4-cup serving carton, and a package of four single-serve cartons. Currently the flavors So Delicious offers are “Mocha” and “Latte.” So Delicious sets themselves apart in the cold brew market by making their beverages vegan, gluten-free, and with coconut milk. Personally, I prefer the “Latte” flavor over the “Mocha.” The coconut flavor is a little strong in both varieties, but I find it more appetizing in the “Latte.”

Third Street Chai’s Iced Bhakati Chai Coffee Blend isn’t my favorite grocery store coffee purchase. I felt that the flavor of the chai tea was a little too spicy and rather than complement the coffee, competed with it. Mixing it with a little hazelnut coconut milk creamer helped mellow it out a bit. I enjoy Third Street Chai’s chai tea, but I think adding coffee into the mix was a little too adventurous.
